I hope you love your 50s as much as I'm loving mine. Feels like the prime of my life. I was always a late bloomer. Happy 50th! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸŽ‚

I made a β€œ40 Before 40 list” and it was filled with too many very time consuming or super expensive ideas. Then I moved halfway through age 39 and a bunch of them became impossible. When I turned 40, I just scrolled through my phone to find 40 things I actually did and retroactively decided this qualifies as a success. It was the most practical GenX thing I’ve ever done on a birthday.

Several years ago I got tired of waiting for my family to plan something fun for my birthday.

I wanted to mark the day with friends and something out of the ordinary.

One year was moms and kids and sandwiches.

One year was indigo dying and a fancy cake.

One year was box lunches at a sculpture park.

One year was a Prince dance party that only 3 people attended.

I put exactly as much effort into the day as I want and invite all my favorite people.

It’s become one of my favorite traditions.

In the fall, I got myself a breast reduction 6 weeks before my 50th birthday, because I had waited a very long time to actually go ahead and make the plan to do it. I got myself a nose job at 29. I got my first tattoo at 19. I don’t remember doing anything of note at 39, other than moving into the house that I still live in now and love. I’m getting my second tattoo next week, at age 50. The only birthday that ever bothered me was 35. My mother had just survived cancer, and my younger sister got married, so I felt like I was really really an adult, and there was no turning back. It was a hard year, all around. But other than that, I guess I’ve always felt like an old person on the inside, so birthdays are whatever I want to make of them. I share a birthday with my mother, so I tend to celebrate my birthday the day before, which is Halloween. I like costumes.

Happiest of birthdays to you! I hope this is the start of your best year yet!

You share a birthday with my mom. πŸ₯° If how she and I got along is any indication, if we knew each other IRL, we'd definitely be besties. I also hit 50 in 2025, but in September. Cheers to the back 50. 🍻

That’s so cool, cheers! ❀️

Guffawed at the Men's Health recos.

Also any thoughts on whether GenX or Millennials seem to be defying age?

You don't look 50, and that's not a knock on what 50 can look like. You just don't.

Happy birthday! Sometimes the β€œbig” ones can be hard but I try to remember it’s a privilege to celebrate another year. A privilege not granted to everyone so I consider myself lucky every year πŸ™‚

Ok, I have 4 years until and from that list, I've only not seen a volcano. I'm doing good! haha Honestly, a volcano is something I'd rather only witness on a tv from far away.

Happy almost 50th, Liz! I have loved my fifties so far (I’ll be 58 in a couple of months), and hope you fulfill all your personal goals on whatever list you choose. Seriously, been crying at the movies for decades…
