Nice list. The Greatest American Hero and Hill Street Blues were both composed by the great Mike Post (as was Magnum PI, The A-Team, Law and Order, Doogie Howser, and about a million others). The below post sums up his work.
I’m soooo glad you included The Greatest American Hero on your list! Rarely I find someone who remembers it. I used to swing on our swingset and then jump off the swing when I got to the “meee” part. Honorable mention suggestion, “CHIPs”.
There was a video of Trump meeting the California Highway Patrol circulating a few years ago; someone had added the CHiPs theme song. Highly entertaining.
Milton C. Hardcastle is a retired judge from the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Mark McCormick, an ex racecar driver turned thief, was Hardcastle’s last case.
McCormick has been placed in the judge’s custody and together they’re going after 200 cases that walked out of Hardcastle’s courtroom on technicalities.
Hill Street Blues: I always stayed up to watch the opening, then it was time to go bed. Best Thursdays night… Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Night Court, and then that song. I always wanted to watch it. Along with Thirtysomething, I was never old enough according to my mom.
I loved Diff’rent Strokes and the theme song pops into my head sometimes so I am SHOCKED I forgot about it for this post! “The world don’t move to the beat of just one drum…”
The Hogan’s Heroes theme song is totally memorable! I can’t believe I forgot that one. The other two are ‘60s shows though so they wouldn’t have been on the list anyway.
You’re right! For some reason I remembered it as an early ‘70s show…maybe because the last seasons were in the ‘70s? Anyway, all 3 are from the ‘60s so none of them would be on the list.
You helped me remember that my parents would let me watch the theme song/introduction to Hills Street Blues and then I'd have to go to bed. You know it's a great list when Miami Vice is #9. I gotta find that intro to see for myself 😉
Some real bangers on there. I would add the A-Team and MacGyver themes, too.
In my elementary school, we had to learn the sign language translation for Greatest American Hero.

MacGyver - swoon!!!

Yes, CHiPS! I totally remember that one

Obvious misses: Magnum PI, Golden Girls
Sleeper: Hardcastle & McCormick
And Good Times, even though it was in reruns by the time I saw it
Mike Post was an 80s theme song genius! Also great was his theme for The White Shadow…

Great list! Although, I would add WKRP…😊
The WKRP credits/closing tune is 💥 too. Hilarious banger with nonsense lyrics. Johnny Fever!
This all day! 🤟🏼
Came here to say this.
I also think of The Love Boat and The Dukes of Hazzard, despite the racist undertones.
Nah, they were just Good Ole Boys.
...never meaning no harm.
A couple of “deep cuts”… Airwolf. https://youtu.be/SnlQUqJ08jc?si=DPKI61kvuCDduNby

No Good Times? That’s inexcusable.
Well it’s excusable but it’s an oversight
"Ain't we lucky we got 'em!"
Piping in here to put a spotlight on Gimme Me A Break, which had two renditions of the same song (the latter is legitimately great),
Quincy Jones created the Sanford & Son theme.
Barney Miller
My favorite...

Hill Street Blues

Night Court

Had to scroll way too long to find the Night Court theme. That is one funky tune!
Oh! Diff'rent Strokes and also The Facts of Life (both versions!) 😃
I loved Diff’rent Strokes and the theme song pops into my head sometimes so I am SHOCKED I forgot about it for this post! “The world don’t move to the beat of just one drum…”
Whatchu talkin’ ‘bout, Liz?
Written and performed by Alan Thicke.
Come on Hogans Heros, get smart, mission impossible.

MAsH. Mary Tyler Moore. Newhart. Fall Guy. Dukes. Family Ties. :)
